This workshop is limited to 16 participants.
During the 2020 MFA Production Bootcamp, participants will assume the roles of a production crew and, with the guidance of expert mentors, shoot a short film based on the final script, script breakdown, shot list, and production schedule created during the Preproduction Bootcamp on February 23. Students will gain hands-on experience as crew members using equipment and gear from the USM Communication & Media Studies Production Center’s studio.
The Production Bootcamp is open to all those interested in learning about the film production process, and will be most beneficial to novice and amateur filmmakers.
The day will begin with a production meeting to review safety standards, the day’s agenda, and the production schedule. Once the crew is oriented, they will be designated roles to assume for the shoot, and will work with their mentors to set up and shoot the film as a grip & lighting crew member, on set producer, script supervisor, production assistant, director, assistant director, director of photography, camera operator, assistant camera, boom operator, or sound recordist.
Production Bootcamp Preparation:
- Participants should wear closed footwear and set-appropriate work clothing.
- Participants should come prepared for a day of on-set work, and must read this Production Bootcamp Background Materials packet prior to March 8, and have a base knowledge of the enclosed vocabulary and concepts.
- The final script, script breakdown, shot list, and production schedule that will be used during this one-day shoot will be sent to participants after these materials have been finalized following the Preproduction Bootcamp.
