A B O U T
I write about Italian cinema and culture, focusing in particular focus on the relationship between narrative film and place. I am currently at work on "Cinematic Rome between the Sacred and the Profane," a book about filmic representations of Rome and their treatment of the city’s dual identity as capital of the Catholic Church and capital of the Italian state. I also direct Kinolab (kinolab.bowdoin.edu), a searchable online repository of digitized film clips enriched with metadata detailing cinematography, editing, sound, and mise-en-scene.
