After a jam-packed few months of film festivities, Maine’s summer festival season is nearing it’s end. But don’t fret Maine film lovers — the extraordinary 22nd Annual Camden International Film Festival starts today!
Presented by the Points North Institute, the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) is an annual festival highlighting boundary-pushing documentary and nonfiction films from Maine and beyond. | The opening night of CIFF will screen the North American premiere of Boatbuilders, a brand new feature documentary from Sundance Award winner Luke Lorentzen. Boatbuilders is an ode to a time-old tradition, following the craftspeople of Maine’s Brooklin Boat Yard as they meticulously build a 56-foot wooden sailboat over the course of four seasons, culminating in a majestic maiden voyage. Boatbuilders will screen on September 17 at 7:30 PM at the Camden Opera House. |

| As the invasive European Green Crab jeopardizes the natural ecosystem of Maine’s beloved coastline, this locally produced short film from the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies brings together a waterman, a chef, a science educator, and advertisers to present their plans for how to fight back against this emerging threat. Claws for Concern will screen at the Camden Opera House on September 20 at 4 PM as a part of the “Dirigo Docs” program. |

Sept. 25-26: A Weekend of Documentary Films in Kittery |

The Dance Hall, in collaboration with Vacationland Films, presents two documentary film screenings on back-to-back nights in Kittery. Following each, Kalim Summerday Armstrong, Kittery-based documentary filmmaker and co-founder of Vacationland Films and Studio Kittery, will moderate panel discussions and Q&A, and share his role in bringing these stories to life. | Fork in the Road sheds light on the struggles and resilience of small-scale farmers and communities working around an unjust food system. It highlights how conventional agriculture, climate change, and economic inequality impact independent farmers. The documentary features the work and legacy of the late Wendell Berry and includes a panel discussion with the film's director and local Seacoast farmer Jeff Benton of Orange Circle Farm in Berwick, Maine. |
